The first part of this book is the fundamentals of improv. It is important to cultivate the culture of improv, which is a culture of assent, inclusion, collaboration safety and respect. Learning the fundamentals of improv will allow you to create an interactive environment that is conducive to learning and creativity.

This workbook includes improv games and role plays that target specific social skills. The games are in alphabetical order and separated by warm ups and games. The warm ups are designed to get the body moving and to warm up the brain to get ready for games and role plays. Some of the role plays will require instructors to use direct instruction to provide foundational knowledge before engaging in the role play. It is okay to break down the role plays into several smaller lessons across several sessions if needed based on the developmental level of the learners. Don’t be afraid to reintroduce role plays & games, and scaffold (break it down to make it more simple) .

The role plays are broken up into two parts. The first part is designed to be used in one on one settings, while the second part is designed to be used in group settings. Some role plays will require you to make a copy of the lesson to cut out strips for prompts. It is bet to make a copy of the page on a copy machine so that you can make future copies and reuse the lessons.

After the role plays, you will find data collection criteria and suggested goals. Feel free to make as many copies as needed. I personally like to have a few copies laminated for reuse along with a dry erase marker. At the end of each session, you can transfer the data into any data collection software.
